While the MXZx 600 RS has been the class of the field, resting on laurels isn’t how the BRP Race Team operates, and this year’s snocross racing snowmobile clearly demonstrates that – as did the previously announced MXZ X-RS with Competition Package and Summit Hill Climb Edition that were heavily influenced production-based models.

The newest version of the MXZx 600RS will deliver more performance and durability for top pros and independents alike with key features from the REV Gen5 platform.

The list of improvements doesn’t stop with the platform as it also includes a re-engineered rear suspension and engine updates to take things up another notch.

The REV platform with its open cockpit design and centrally balanced engine provide superior rider ergonomics and handling in rough conditions. The layout delivers agile and responsive behavior to rider input while the Ergo Step side panels and beveled tunnel allow racers the room to attack – without interference from the chassis.

It features the REV Gen5 four-point engine mounting system and improved CVT alignment for more consistent clutch performance plus a stiffer chassis that provides more precise handling and better feedback to the rider. Another Gen5 feature is the quick-change drive axle for easier and faster track changes, making race weekends easier for the pit crews.

The RS specific front S-Module is also reinforced for improved durability and because racing can lead to unexpected events, the ignition coil and RAVE motor have been relocated inboard to protect from impacts.

Changes from last year carryover in the RAS RS front suspension with shorter shock length that maintains the same travel to help lower the center of gravity, and a spring rate that was increased to reduce roll, for better cornering.

The front suspension continues to feature a long spindle design that allows high cornering speeds and a unique power steering system exclusive to the MXZx RS race sled that provides ultra-precise handling with less effort.

The legendary rMotion RS rear suspension has also undergone many engineering updates for improved performance including a refined center arm for improved traction in rough conditions – especially the ice edges and ridges that develop in snocross racing.

The motion ratio of the rear arm is changed with a new linkage that provides a softer initial feel and when combined with the improved coupling it delivers better traction and weight transfer for more control in wicked snocross conditions.

The MXZ RS continues to use bespoke 46 mm KYB Pro Series shocks that have Integral Base Valves with the ability to adjust not only High and Low Speed Compression but also High Speed rebound and calibration has been updated to match the rear suspension geometry changes.

The engine powering the MXZx 600RS E-TEC is as sophisticated as any 2-stroke on earth – except maybe the Rotax 850 E-TEC Turbo R that features water injection, where it draws technology from like booster injectors, a short intake tract with double reeds and digital eRAVE. But that doesn’t mean it’s finicky or high maintenance – it’s actually just the opposite.

By using E-TEC advanced systems, this 600cc high output monster is a hands-off package that compensates for weather and altitude conditions while delivering maximum horsepower at all times without human intervention.

This year the engine uses new larger injectors and further refined calibration that improves reliability and overall performance yet again.

Ski-Doo Re-Energizes and Resets The Bar

For 2024, Ski-Doo introduces the MXZ X-RS with the new trail version of the Rotax 850 E-TEC Turbo R featuring an industry-first water injection system, becoming the most powerful 2-stroke engine available. With that extra power, engineers also added the strengthened components of the Competition package to create an even tougher MXZ X-RS to withstand many miles of big bumps and rough trails.

Ski-Doo is also expanding the fifth generation of the REV platform to more models, including many with 4-stroke power. With the introduction of 4-stroke power in the REV Gen 5, the MXZ and Renegade lines of snowmobiles reset their positioning in the larger Ski-Doo lineup. The 2024 Backcountry models also see some huge changes with a move to the REV Gen5 and will offer a more athletic look, trail precision and straight-line tracking improvements, better balance of control and fun factor.

Finally, the deep snow crowd gets a re-engineered Freeride model that the most hardcore riders will appreciate as it establishes a new standard of handling for the riders that continue to push creativity to new levels in their extreme deep snow maneuvers.

“The new MXZ X-RS is the ultimate trail sled, truly at the pinnacle of high performance. We’ve combined the best components to deliver an unforgettable ride that will leave the most ardent skeptics smiling from ear to ear,” said Jérémi Doyon-Roch, Manager, Global Marketing, Snowmobile and Cross Brand Initiatives at BRP. “We’ve also deployed the REV Gen5 platform on the Renegade, Backcountry and Grand Touring, to offer riders the best possible technologies, refined performance and ultimately, the best experience ever on a snowmobile.”

Ski-Doo is also pleased to continue offering the MXZ 120 and 200, along with the MXZ and Summit Neo models making it easier for anyone and everyone to get in on the fun of riding a snowmobile.

2023 SKI-DOO BLIZZARD STEPS IT UP https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/2023-ski-doo-blizzard-steps-it-up/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/2023-ski-doo-blizzard-steps-it-up/#respond Mon, 09 Jan 2023 19:08:57 +0000 https://www.supertraxmag.com/?p=15051 Before the melt here I got to spend a couple days riding our production G-5 (serial# 00001!) MXZ Blizzard 850 and to say I’m impressed inadequately describes my feelings about this iteration of the popular MXZ genre.

Blizzard, IMO, has meant “value” in the past. In other words, low level standard equipment. However, the Blizz we have on the ground is more like the former Adrenaline package and borders on the MXZ-X of days gone by.

My observations are a result of three beautiful KYB compression adjustable, piggyback reservoir dampers up front and on the rear arm. These “EA 3” shocks closely mirror the way Fox QS-3’s work. There are just three compression settings – soft, medium and hard. That’s it, and I’m going to categorically say it is more than enough adjustability for over 90-percent of riders.

The days of 16 or 21 klicks on the compression side of the damping profile were overkill. Think about this: Three settings allow for the equivalent of click #7, #14 and #21. That’s a perfect spread of adjustment 95-percent of riders will be able to perceive on the first trial of a clicker change-up. If you can’t tell by now, I heartily recommend these shocks (as do we recommend Fox QS-3’s).

The fact the 2023 Blizz 850 is a Gen-5 speaks to Ski-Doo’s intention to keep this model iteration exactly where it is. It is predominantly an in-season ride for dealers to stock. Unfortunately (or fortunately), depending on how you look at it, supply chain problems have kept in-stock models from showing up at dealers this fall. In any case, there were lots of Blizzards Spring Checked.

As a side note, the Blizzard (which is only available as a 129) can also be had with Rotax’s silky smooth 600 E-TEC twin producing 125 ponies, however, there’s one caveat: The 600 is still wearing G-4 clothes. Maybe next year?

MXZ Blizzard featuring the 600R ETEC is only available in the G4 trim for 2023.

This is a fast snowmobile. It’s been a year or two since I’ve spent much time on a 129. It seems most of our trail-destined sleds all come with 137s now. This 850 Blizzard’s E-TEC 850 is rated at 165-hp and is ready and willing to take you to the C-Note in record time.

The bonus here is the feeling of flickability. The shorter track is perceptible over our Renegade 137 in circuitous terrain. I am pleased it is noticeable as many buyers are going for 137’s for their mogul bridging capabilities. What is not as widely spoken is the inherent enhanced corner carving of the 129 Blizz.

What about mogul bridging? For sure a 137 does skip across the top of bumps very effectively. However, let’s not forget that this 129 comes with those KYB klickers and a full-on industry leading rMotion skid.

One issue Ski-Doo has not run the flag up the pole with is the new G-5’s re-engineered engine mounting system. Why they’re not talking about it I do not understand. However, this new way to shoehorn the 850 into the G-5 is highly effective, all but eliminating the annoying idle RPM shakes the G-4 850 displayed since its intro in 2017.

Frankly, the G-5 platform produces an increased measure of tangible refinement as a result of the new mounting system.

Check out 2023 Ski Doo MXZ Blizzard Detailed Overview and you can hear my impressions and actually see how effective the new motor mounts are.

The Blizzard is back in full force and looks to be a significant player in the 129-inch 850 segment.

REMOTE COUPLING BLOCK ADJUSTER https://www.supertraxmag.com/ask-motorhead/remote-coupling-block-adjuster/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/ask-motorhead/remote-coupling-block-adjuster/#respond Wed, 22 Mar 2017 04:00:00 +0000 https://new.supertraxmag.com/uncategorized/remote-coupling-block-adjuster/ This is false (ref: BRP REMOTE COUPLING BLOCK ADJUSTER). This does not change it from an coupled skid to an uncoupled.

You cannot change a coupled skid by adjusting rear stops to make it uncoupled. Parts need to be physically changed to do that.

You need to reword your article as it’s misleading.

Brad Ratch

Hey Brad!

Sit up and pay strict attention to how the remote coupler adjuster works. It will allow the rider to use his or her pre-determined rear coupling setting (located on the drop link pivot) in any of the four positions or – this is where you’re confused – no coupling at all as it swivels the rear coupler stops on the rail extrusion completely out of the way – which means no, zip, nada coupling.

So, the system allows for either a predetermined coupling moment of #1 thru #4 or no coupling. We think it’s pretty cool.

Thanks,

Motorhead Mark
