WHAT’S POLARIS GOT FOR 2024? https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/whats-polaris-got-for-2024/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/whats-polaris-got-for-2024/#respond Wed, 25 Jan 2023 18:23:13 +0000 https://www.supertraxmag.com/?p=15190 It’s that time of year again when we start speculating what the OEMs will be rolling out for your humble servants (that’s us) to sample at Sneak Peek.

For the record, Sneak Peek is held in late January or early February at a top secret location each one of the OEMs selects annually. It’s not a West Yellowstone Snow Shoot event as each OEMs runs a private party with only select in-sport media invited. As you can imagine, the list of media participants has been getting somewhat shorter the past few years.

So here goes with what we think Polaris may show us at its 2024 Sneak Peek.

DYNAMIX

We think Polaris will unveil its highly effective, semi-active Dynamix suspension system on at least the Indy MATRYX VR-1. The snowmobile intro of this technology is actually about a year overdue with Ski-Doo, Arctic Cat and Yamaha offering their own semi-active systems.

This technology is not cheap to develop or produce, so expect it to be available only on top-of-the-segment models and only on Snow Checked Polaris models.

TURBO 4-STROKE

We’ve rumored we expect Polaris to take its 4-stroke program (S4) to more models in 20224. However, we think it is not beyond the realm of possibility for the new 1000cc Pro Star S4 to get the Boost treatment.

Think about this: The 1000cc Pro Star engine used in the S4 has been turbocharged to produce 180 HP in select RZR off-road SxS vehicles.

Simply put, that engine can inhale copious quantities of compressed air literally jammed down its throat with nary as much as a cough. Bolting a turbo onto the Pro Star S4 mill can’t be too difficult… can it?

XCR BOOST

Next issue requiring speculation: The insertion of the Boost 850 Patriot into the XCR platform. We think this is a no-brainer with the ditch banging crowd always looking for more lift-off power on the “approaches”.

While the Boost 850 VR-1 fits nicely into the rider profile it’s intended for, there’s more than just “lake racers looking for a Boost-equipped bump runner”.

The XCR Boost should come with a 137 out back like the VR-1 Boost. A 1.5 Camso Shredder would be practical on an XCR Boost.

GAUGE TECH

Here’s a long shot, but, hey, this is what we do at Sneak Peek time. I think we might see a new standard gauge to replace the long-in-the-tooth PID cluster. Ski-Doo not only upped its deluxe display to 10.2 inches but it improved its “base model “info center for 2023.

The PID does not allow easy access to the settings supporting the new Smart Grip thumb and handwarmers. A new display would surely include improved access to the excellent heaters similar to the S-7.

That’s about it for our Polaris predictions and wishes for MY 2024. Maybe you have a few guesses too so let’s hear it!

MOST ANTICIPATED 2018 SLEDS: Polaris Switchback XCR 800 https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/most-anticipated-2018-sleds-polaris-switchback-xcr-800/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/most-anticipated-2018-sleds-polaris-switchback-xcr-800/#respond Wed, 24 Jan 2018 11:00:00 +0000 https://new.supertraxmag.com/uncategorized/most-anticipated-2018-sleds-polaris-switchback-xcr-800/ Here’s one I’m personally really excited about:

Why get excited about a simple rendition of a sled we’ve already seen? What’s the big deal? Simple, it’s the perfect combination, and if you wanted an XCR last year, you couldn’t have it.

I understand many people prefer a short track sled in the 120-121 range, but not me. My track length of choice is 129 at minimum and 136 or 137, ideally.

On the other hand, my preferred Polaris model is the XCR because it blends the incredible handling of the Pro S with the big bump capability of the Pro X. It’s simply a perfect compromise.

This season I can have my proverbial cake, and eat it too. I can have my XCR, with all its racy goodies and characteristics with that 136-inch Switchback length track that offers more traction, better acceleration and, IMO, better handling and a better ride than the 120. If that’s not something to get excited about, I honestly just don’t know what is.

Every new snowmobile season brings a host of new iron and all of it is exciting in its own way. Maybe none of the new sleds on my list gets to you in same way it does me. We’re all different. We all ride differently and have different requirements and preferences. So not everyone’s list of “most exciting new sleds” is going to be the same.

This is my list, what’s yours?

The INDY EVO™ delivers a comfortable, sporty and confidence-inspiring ride experience that will fuel a new rider’s passion for snowmobiling.

New riders need a sled built for them that’s the right size and offers easy, confidence-inspiring steering and handling. They want a sled with power they can control so they can confidently enjoy trailing riding with family and friends.

Perfect Fit for New Riders

Created using Polaris advanced design engineering, the INDY EVO™ is lower and narrower than a full-sized sled. Coupled with a lower seat height, this hunkered-down stance lowers the center of gravity to enhance the feeling of stability and confidence.

INDY EVO™ ergonomics are designed to fit a broad range of riders and positions them for ultimate comfort, control and confidence. The low, narrow bodywork provides outstanding visibility, yet delivers excellent wind protection with AXYS-style integrated airfoils and a wide range of windshield options.

Purpose-built, flat, low bars provide excellent leverage, and the easy throttle flipper accommodates hands of all sizes. The cockpit is roomy, providing ample knee room for the active INDY riding style.

Confident Handling, Easy Steering

The INDY EVO™ Independent Front Suspension is engineered for a stable yet effortless ride on trails. It features shocks designed and calibrated specifically for the INDY EVO™ chassis and the adjustable-stance IFS allows the sled to evolve with the rider.

The all-new INDY EVO™ ski was designed exclusively for this sled, plus delivers confident handling with reduced steering effort.

Just-Right Performance & Fun

The proven Polaris 550cc fan-cooled engine delivers just the right amount of power for new riders. Speed is electronically controlled to a maximum of 50 mph, and stage-tuning kits will be available to adjust the vehicle’s performance and ride as skills grow.

The INDY EVO™ is available in two models, with manual start or electric start.

Many Polaris accessories are available for the INDY EVO™ so riders can customize and personalize their sleds to suit their style, and optimize comfort, convenience and cargo solutions.

2018 POLARIS SWITCHBACK 800 XCR https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/2018-polaris-switchback-800-xcr/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/2018-polaris-switchback-800-xcr/#respond Wed, 03 Jan 2018 11:00:00 +0000 https://new.supertraxmag.com/uncategorized/2018-polaris-switchback-800-xcr/ I’ve had the opportunity to put some decent miles on the new Switchback XCR so far this winter. I’m more impressed with the production XCR Switchback than I was with the pre-pro models we rode last spring in Yellowstone.

The build quality of the new XCR is the best I’ve seen from Polaris: The hood panels and fenders align perfectly, mount on and off like greased lighting and the overall feel of the sled is one of tight, purpose-built quality.

Our XCR is powered by a Cleanfire 800 Liberty HO with some minor tweaks for the 2018 model year. Among the most significant is a new thermostat that tangibly aids in cold engine warm-up. The rest of the AXYS Pro-XC chassis is textbook Polaris: Tough, unbreakable and functional.

It’s generally accepted here at Trax World HQ the Switchback genre of the AXYS is the best looking and most proportionally correct iteration of the legendary Pro XC suspended platform.

Here’’s what we think you need to know most about this new XCR variant. This is – IMO – the best handling snowmobile money can buy. Handling traits this variable castor IFS generates using the Pro-S lowered ride height (as compared to the Pro-X) that produces corner-carving response unequalled in the biz.

One more incomparable with the XCR: The jackshaft brake. This brake stands alone in the biz with Arctic, Yamaha and Ski-Doo all moving to drive-axle mounted binders. As far as I’m concerned, this is not progress. The Polaris jackshaft-mounted system provides incomparable depth of modulation, precise feel while generating the cleanest, sweetest mechanical noise in the biz.

The new XCR 800 Switchback is one of those sleds that not only meets but, in many instances, exceeds our expectations!

2018 POLARIS SNOWMOBILES https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/2018-polaris-snowmobiles/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/2018-polaris-snowmobiles/#respond Tue, 07 Mar 2017 05:00:00 +0000 https://new.supertraxmag.com/uncategorized/2018-polaris-snowmobiles/ Who would have thought the newest sled to land from Polaris would have a mountain length track that’s 20-inches wide? Not us!

Polaris has completely warped our sensibilities with the intro of the new and formidable Titan 800. The sled is revolutionary from this perspective. This isn’t a fur hat, Carhart wearing rider’s dream. This is everybody’s workhorse/sport-ute.

The new Titan comes in three models – Titan Adventure, Titan SP and a really cool Titan XC version. The 20-inch by 155 track has varying lug lengths but puts down a footprint allowing for not just unstoppable flotation but Euclid level pulling power.

A really slick F-N-R Hi-Lo range sub tranny provides enough torque to pull a fish house off any lake under any conditions – short of open water.

The Adventure we like best comes with a full-on passenger king/queen seat with heated amenities. This is an amazingly comfortable two up ride.

Here’s the beef – no apologies are necessary when riding with your group – the 800 Liberty HO CleanFire is belting out 160 ponies and is capable of achieving an amazing 101 MPH top speed. Essentially, move over, the Titan is coming.

Walker Evans clickers are included and – you better sit down for this – ride quality in jigglers, stutters and moguls is at the top of the industry – the sled simply mows moguls.

If you’re like us, this was not what you were expecting. However we are and remain pleasantly surprised with the new Titan.

Another new Polarii we were pretty sure would arrive – did just that. The 2018 Switchback XCR is just as serious as the 120 inch XCR using virtually identical suspension components and based off the low slung, corner carving Pro-S architecture.

The 137 incher out back does exactly what you would expect – it bridges moguls and bites hard, delivering better traction and resultant acceleration.

Keep in mind, those Walker clickers are valved for competition use – this is a serious, XC race ready ride. One addition for 2018 that will be welcomed by XCR buyers is available e-start.

Last year’s hit – the RMK SKS returns with a 146 inch sneaker out back and instantly becomes a more credible flatland boon docker capable of running trails when called upon. The SKS is quickly becoming a paradigm shifter with free riders.

Finally – Polaris and Timbersled pretty much blew everyone away with the intro of the all-new, Timbersled Aro. Forget everything about the current Timbersled chassis as the new Aro is lighter, lower, more efficient and way easier to install on your dirt bike.

There’s also a new ski that makes hardpack riding exponentially more stable. We think Polaris and Timbersled are just scratching the surface with this Snow Bike thing. Stay tuned.
