Improved ergonomics. Built even tougher. The new Lynx Rave RS racing snowmobile is poised to extend its championship streak, setting the standard for its competitors on European racetracks. The Rave RS has recorded the fastest lap times on each test track, when a comparison has been made with previous model years and competing brands.

The New rCTRL Rear Suspension

The design of the rCTRL (center-to-rear-linked) rear suspension focused on enhancing rollability and increasing damping capacity, enabling the Lynx Rave RS snowmobile to achieve faster laps on snocross tracks. Durability has been improved, and maintenance has been simplified.

The revolutionary rCTRL rear suspension is based on a unique coupling system. In this mechanism, the center arm borrows damping force from the rear arm through the shock absorber to the center arm area. This unique solution provides the center arm with increased damping power without an excessively stiff center shock.

The center arm plays a pivotal role in modern snowcross racing, as the rider’s and sled’s mass is centralized in a smaller area on the middle of the sled, subjecting the center arm to substantial forces. The rear arm of the rCTRL suspension operates independently at all times, with force applied solely to the rear arm. For instance, when the sled lands with rear weight after a jump, the rear arm smoothly follows the landing, without slamming down the front end of the sled.

The carrying capacity of the rear arm is guaranteed by using a long shock absorber with a total dimension of 590 mm and a stroke length of 175 mm. The long stroke allows the suspension open more, giving more damping force on the landing of jumps. In addition to high damping capacity and carrying capacity, the advantages of a long damper are also easy adjustability.

Thanks to the new geometry of the rCTRL rear suspension, the Rave RS rolls significantly better than its predecessor, especially when riding on bumps. Due to the small variation in the track tension, the pre-adjustment of the track tension can be left looser than before without the track ratcheting.

The slide rails of the rear suspension are machined to their shape from aluminum profile. The center arm is attached to the frame with a fork, which means that to remove the rear suspension, it is enough to simply loosen the bolts of the rear arm and pull the rear suspension out. Parts have been reduced in the name of maintainability and weight saving: the number of parts is reduced by a third which means a weight saving of 5 kg compared to its predecessor. The rCTRL rear suspension is now more service-friendly and faster to maintain, much to the relief of racing team mechanics.

The limiter strap is located outside the suspension, and adjusting the strap does not require opening the strap loop. The bolts of rear suspension are standardized and fewer different tools are needed for maintenance than before. The bolts are placed in such a way that they are easily accessible from the outside of the suspension. The attachment of the rear arm to the slide rails is done by slide sleeve.

The LFS Racing front suspension of the Rave RS racing sled uses new, taller spindles. The change goes hand in hand with the new rCTRL rear suspension, bringing 27 mm more ground clearance under the lower A-arm. As part of the reform of the sled’s suspension, the swaybar has been removed, which contributes to the sled’s weight savings.

Renewed Radien-RS Chassis

The Rave RS 600RS E-TEC has also experienced significant reforms in terms of the structure of the chassis. Four-point engine mounting, lower located running boards and further strengthened structure mean increased performance, better handling and enhanced reliability.

The fierce powerhouse of snowcross tracks, the Rotax 600RS E-TEC engine, is now mounted to the chassis via four attachment points. The alignment of the powertrain is now more constant due to the stiffer engine mounting, which improves the efficiency of the transmission and thus increases the performance even more.

The S-module of the front frame has been strengthened with a new, straight crossbar and new reinforcements. The running boards are 30 mm lower than before, which brings the center of gravity lower, making cornering easier and helping the rider to get support from the sled when jumping. At the same time, the rider’s foot holders have been brought back 5 cm.
The disc brake cover features additional perforation to improve the cooling of the brake.

The new calibration of the engine optimizes the performance in line with other innovations of the Rave RS factory racer: more power, more speed on the track. The ignition coil and the Rave motor have been repositioned lower on the chassis than before, which lowers the center of gravity and keeps the important components better protected.

Thanks to the new bearings in the chain case, removing the drive shaft is much faster and easier than before. In the future, the track can be replaced without disassembling the chain case, which makes the maintenance staff’s race weekends significantly easier.

Thanks to the more evenly shaped chassis and larger ground clearance, the bottom of the sled hits the snow less often than before, improving the progress of the sled on soft tracks. The rCTRL rear suspension is attached to the rear chassis with a fork-type lug, which distributes the force more evenly to the bearings.

The redesigned RS seat has been brought 30 mm lower along with the running boards, which, together with the chassis changes, lowers the center of gravity.

Lynx Rave RS 600RS is built on Radien-RS chassis and its uniqueness is the short rear chassis and the flexible rear part made of polyethylene. The flexible rear part, unlike the aluminum tunnel, is easy, quick and inexpensive to change in case of damage.

Aiming to Continue The Championship Streak

Lynx Rave RS has been number one on European snowcross tracks for years. In the spring 2023, the Finnish Aki Pihlaja achieved the coveted world championship title with the Rave RS in Kirkenes, Norway, and is eager to renew the title in the 2024 season.

Lynx was by far the most successful racing sled also in the Scandinavian national series: Rave RS riders achieved a total of 12 championships in the 2023 season, complemented by more than 20 podium places.

The completely renewed Lynx Rave RS 600RS E-TEC race sled has gone through a tough test program by front row drivers. The project and test group has included riders who have achieved a total of nearly one hundred prestigious race medals.

QUÉBEC: ONE TRAIL… AND YOU’LL BE HOOKED FOR LIFE! https://www.supertraxmag.com/tourism/quebec-one-trail-and-you-are-hooked/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/tourism/quebec-one-trail-and-you-are-hooked/#respond Wed, 01 Nov 2023 10:24:32 +0000 https://www.supertraxmag.com/?p=15520 On a recent road trip to a new-product reveal, a group of Supertrax magazine and SnowTrax TV crew members were engaged in a deep conversation, narrowing down their top choices for ride destinations this coming season. The question had been posed: If you could go anywhere to ride snowmobiles, where would it be and why?

While the reason for their top choice varied, it didn’t take more than a hot minute before the unanimous choice was decided. As eloquently put by one of us: “For the diehard snowmobiler, no riding season is ever complete without a trip to Québec. It only takes one trip and you’ll be hooked for life.”

Many of our crew members have snowmobiled in Québec countless times – some going back to the 1980’s and 1990’s. As the conversation continued, the enthusiasm for the province as a world-class destination focused in on the attractions and amenities, we had all personally experienced in our travels to Québec.

Bonjour QUÉBEC

First and foremost is the incredible network of snowmobile trails that interconnect every area. Luke said, “It doesn’t seem to matter where in the province you ride, the trails are always so well-groomed and so thoughtfully laid out. You can ride your snowmobile to almost any region and you’ll find wide, safe trails and it’s a rarity to ride a whole day and not see at least a couple of groomers out there hard at work.”

He added, “The scenery is flat-out awesome – there are places where you’re riding through rolling meadows and beautiful forests for miles and then you suddenly come up on a quaint village or first-class resort where you’d least expect it. I also love how diverse the terrain is throughout the province. I didn’t believe it until I experienced it first-hand. The Chic-Chocs offer technical deep snow riding rivaling the terrain in Western Canada and the United States, but at an elevation that doesn’t make it hard to catch your breath. Can you ask for anything better?”

AJ said: “I love the fact that Québec is so close in proximity. From where I live in Ontario, it’s only a day’s drive, yet once I cross the border into Québec and start immersing myself into its culture, I feel like I’m experiencing a worldly adventure – like being in Europe. You simply can’t replicate this type of experience anywhere else in North America, and, of course, you can’t find trails like the ones in Québec anywhere overseas”.

“We were impressed with the trail signage. We thought there might be a possibility the language could be a problem but there was zero trouble finding where we were or how far it was to our daily destinations. The local clubs aren’t the only ones that have signs at every intersection; local businesses, restaurants, fuel stations and places for overnight stays also do an incredibly good job of directing you to their place,” stated Vern.

Said longtime staffer, Mark: “I remember the first time I rode in Québec – it was in 1983 and the trails were better than anywhere else even back then. I sometimes wonder if the fact Québec is the home to the modern snowmobile as we know it today didn’t have something to do with the huge effort, they put into creating those 33,000 kms of trails and gaining a thorough understanding of the importance of maintaining them the way they always have.”

“I love the great food,” added another staffer, “and some of the places I’ve stayed overnight have been downright incredible – quaint places tucked back into the countryside with thoughtfully furnished rooms and fabulous dining. It’s really special to stay at places like that after you’ve been on the trails all day!”

During our conversation we soon discovered we were talking about a place that has it all: Great riding, great culture, great accommodation, and great snow! You could say: Riding in Québec is addictive!

Map of Quebec

We put together a list of some of Québec’s regions and winter tourist sites. When you’re planning a winter vacation these places need to be top-of-mind.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue

This is Québec’s most southwestern region and abuts the province of Ontario for many miles along its western border. Canadians can literally snowmobile from Ontario to Abitibi-Témiscamingue on wide, smooth-groomed trails. Because of its location, there is abundant snow cover and 3500 km of wide, high-quality trails.

It’s a more remote place to ride but incredibly beautiful because of its boreal forests in the north. This means the trees are pretty much all coniferous pines and firs there, growing to less height than you’d see further south in the province where the winter season is shorter.

The scenery is pure, natural and untouched and this is a very good place to see all kinds of wildlife. One thing is certain, you won’t get caught in any traffic jams – spaces are remote and wide open – and unforgettably beautiful!

Eeyou Istchee Baie-James region reaches to Québec’s far north and, because of its far latitude location, it is a bucket-list destination for many snowmobilers who experience its remote, but immaculately-maintained trails carved out of the forests. It’s located in Québec’s uppermost northwestern corner and the all-natural scenery here is magnificent.

There’s a strong list of near-trail and on-trail services available for overnight stays, food, and snowmobile service. This region provides the snowmobiling “experience of a lifetime” and is a must-see location for the most adventurous snowmobile enthusiast.

It’s easy to access the Outaouais region’s wide, well-maintained trails because of its western location in the province and its proximity to both Ontario and New York State. This is a breathtaking place to ride a snowmobile! Its range of geography includes scenic valleys, rolling hills and meadows, lakes, woodlands and the opportunity to observe all kinds of northern wildlife.

You can cross from Ontario on your snowmobile at a bridge crossing onto Trail 13 or another bridge taking you onto Trail 43. We suggest you take Trans-Québec trail 43 and experience the smooth-groomed Pontiac Pacific railway trail (92 km), then check out Québec’s longest covered bridge (Marchand Covered Bridge) and – still accessible from Trail 43 – the picturesque Chutes Coulange waterfall.

Right next to the Outaouais is the Laurentians region. Located in such close proximity to major population centers means trail maintenance is meticulous and frequent by the local snowmobile club volunteers. The big news this year is a new 21-meter-high observation tower has been built at the top of the famous Montagne du Diable (Devil’s Mountain) and is open this winter.

An 11-passenger shuttle is available to take visitors to the summit. You’ll find the trails here are well-signed and you’ll never be far from a town or village where you can dine or stay overnight. Hospitality is the hallmark of the inns, hotels and resorts here and you’ll always feel welcome. You can put in a full day and, after riding literally hundreds of miles, have a delicious meal in quaint, warm fireside surroundings, then fall into a cozy bed for the night.

Since Lanaudière is located only about two hours north of Montréal – and close to Québec City – it’s easy to drive there from both Ontario and the USA. There’s an abundance of inns and resorts that will safely store your vehicle for you while you head out on your snowmobile adventure. Many riders starting here, plan their trip to include both Lanaudière and, heading northeast, visit the Mauricie. There are a number of independent tour companies that will guide you – some will even provide rental snowmobiles. Both of these vast regions offer incredible scenery and legendary wide, safe trails.

Accommodations range from luxurious to rustic and these may be two of the busiest snowmobiling regions in the province. Because of that, trail grooming is done frequently, and you can be assured of excellent riding. Be sure to ride the Pioneers Trail. It’s a one-of-a-kind tour where you’ll observe headstones representing builders of the region. The route will take you to picturesque sites where you’ll discover the region’s heritage and meet a proud and welcoming population.

Charlevoix region, because of its unique location bordering the St. Lawrence River along its southern edge, offers some of the most breathtaking views imaginable. Not only are the trails designed to be coastal, but there’s the magnificent experience of riding in the mountains, too. Located centrally, Charlevoix is easily accessible from the USA and there’s easy entry for Canadians from both the eastern provinces and from Ontario. You can tour this region on one of many loop routes, some coming from major population centers, or experience Charlevoix on your way through it as part of a longer trans-Québec snowmobile adventure. Innumerable overnight and food establishments are situated along the way! The Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu will be a must-stay for snowmobilers. This huge 5-star hotel features a heated garage, river view, several restaurants, a full range of activities at the hotel, heated outdoor pools, spa, and much more.

If you keep heading east through Charlevoix, you’ll enter the southernmost boundary of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. It’s well worth extending your ride, both for bragging rights and for the experience of riding the region’s incredible trail network. Although the land mass in this region is huge, thirteen snowmobile clubs work diligently to groom and maintain this remote trail system. The snowfall is deep and plentiful… and that is paramount to excellent trail grooming!

The season is longer here, often extending into April, so a later season trip, if planned, is unlikely to disappoint. It’s not just about the snowfall, either. Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean offers incredible natural scenery and not just a few vistas (one being Saguenay Fjord), you’ll be remembering for decades. Another “can’t miss” is Mount Apica Viewpoint, part of the Mont-Apica Loop, an extremely beautiful 7-km trail offering incredible scenery at an elevation of over 400 meters.

Centre-du-Québec is close to large population centers and because it’s located south of the St. Lawrence River, it’s easy to get to, especially from the United States. Since the population is denser in this region, there are plenty of overnight, service and food establishments, many directly accessible by snowmobile. A view of the St. Lawrence River from the Ô Quai des Brasseurs microbrewery in Bécancour is especially memorable. The clubs and organizations that do the region’s impeccable trail maintenance have also designed a number of shorter loop rides – a “daisy wheel” – of well-signed trails that can be as little as one day or several days long if you wish, branching out from your starting point.

Chaudière-Appalaches

Chaudière-Appalaches

Chaudière-Appalaches region is located south of the St. Lawrence and borders the American states of New Hampshire and Vermont. If touring snowmobilers are arriving from these states, it makes good sense for them to plan a trip that would include riding both in this region and in Centre-du-Québec because both adjoin one another. Visitors will be rewarded with a wonderful system of well-signed, interconnected and looping trails that not only take in the region’s numerous sights but offer progression to the adjoining region of Bas-Saint-Laurent to the east.

With 5 must-see attractions, the snowmobile junction between Trails #547 and #549 is breathtaking! You won’t soon forget this section between Mont du Midi and Mont Saint-Magloire. So beautiful, you’ll want to stop everywhere along the way! There are many excellent loop trails branching out from the towns and villages here and there are vast numbers of beautiful inns and resorts – so Chaudière-Appalaches is a perfect place for all levels of riders would like to check out the attractions and scenery of a truly beautiful place.

Québec by the Sea

Québec by the Sea
Photo Credit: Percé © Québec by the sea / R. St-Laurent

These three unique regions are linked together by ferry-crossings of the St. Lawrence River. Côte-Nord, sits north of the St. Lawrence and reaches far and wide, bordering Labrador to the east. Trails here are very good, are well-marked and, especially in the southern part along the big river, offer incredible vistas. The furthest point east and south of the St. Lawrence, is the huge region of Gaspésie.

Here you’ll experience unforgettable sea and mountain views. The terrain is rugged and rocky but the excellent snow cover offers some of the most picturesque trails in Québec and the trails are well signed and meticulously maintained. Snowmobilers visiting Gaspésie need to see Percé Rock. It’s an iconic landmark and is especially impressive in the winter when it’s surrounded by ice. Made famous by its arch-shaped hole carved out by the sea, this giant limestone monolith has fascinated people for centuries.

To get to Percé Rock, ride the Bas-Saint-Laurent – Gaspésie Snowmobile Tour, on Trans-Québec trail #5 to the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula, then take the 18-km (11-mi.) local trail to the village of Percé. Bas-Saint-Laurent is located to the west of Gaspésie, still south of the St. Lawrence River. All three regions of Québec by the Sea offer true Québec-style accommodations and hospitality – plus unforgettable scenery and riding experiences you can only see from the seat of a snowmobile!

Arctic Cat’s All-New 858cc Engine https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/arctic-cats-all-new-858cc-snowmobile-engine-purpose-built-for-the-catalyst/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/arctic-cats-all-new-858cc-snowmobile-engine-purpose-built-for-the-catalyst/#respond Sat, 09 Sep 2023 19:13:56 +0000 https://www.supertraxmag.com/?p=15437 This weekend at Hay Days, Arctic Cat announced its all-new 858cc 2-stroke snowmobile engine designed specifically for the CATALYST platform.

Purpose-Built for the CATALYST Platform

• The 858 engine was designed to optimize the CATALYST platform’s centralized design, so the rider is the active force providing more power with more precision and control.
• The innovative laydown engine design places the intake and exhaust in front of the engine allowing for the industry’s best mass centralization and lower center of gravity that the rider can feel for incomparable maneuverability.
• Improved exhaust valve and fuel system controls for increased performance and reduced emissions.
• The design is based on decades of Arctic Cat innovation complemented by the ingenuity of the current team to ensure the engine components fit the CATALYST platform’s design. From working around the centerline steering to integrating components for weight reduction and increased performance, there were no compromises in building an engine that would take the Arctic Cat ride experience to the next level.
• When designing CATALYST, Arctic Cat considered the different powerplants that would be housed in the platform. The brand-new 858 engine is an even lighter package with a lower center of gravity creating a better power to weight ratio for a unique ride.
• Available across trail, crossover and mountain platforms.

Optimized Power in the Industry’s Easiest to Ride Package

• Along with its innovative design to complement the CATALYST platform’s mass centralization, the 858 engine provides the right amount of horsepower for superior performance.
• A new air intake system that is integrated into the platform maximizes airflow to the engine for more power output. Multiple secondary, under-hood inlets prevent snow ingestion and optimize performance in all snow conditions.
• The new, patented exhaust valve design is the latest, most advanced in the industry. It stays tight to the piston as it moves and provides smoother exhaust port flow throughout a wider RPM range on both primary and auxiliary ports. It also provides seamless power and cleaner emissions.
• Compared to Arctic Cat’s 800 engine, the 858 engine provides 11% more power and torque, providing quicker acceleration and a higher top speed.

More Power with Lighter Weight for an Exhilarating Ride

• With its integrated engine mounting design and new exhaust system, the 858 engine is 4% lighter in weight than the current 800 engine. It’s also lighter and provides a lower center of gravity compared to competitive engines.
• A lighter weight design coupled with the CATALYST platform’s centralized mass and low center of gravity provides easier and more-precise handling for a ride experience like no other.
• To keep a lightweight, compact size for the CATALYST platform, Arctic Cat used an 85mm bore while increasing to a 75.6 stroke to achieve more horsepower and deep, bottomless torque that pulls hard and smoothly through the entire RPM range. The result is a power-dense, easier to ride package.
• The 858’s power-to-weight ratio coupled with the unique, lightweight CATALYST platform design takes carving through deep snow, maneuvering tight trails and boondocking to the next level.

Durable and Reliable to Spend More Time on the Snow

• The CATALYST platform was designed to be durable and easy to service with its belt drive system and completely tool-less plastic panels that are removeable for access to critical components. The 858 engine was built to complement the platform. The result: a snowmobile that can withstand the rigors of riding and minimize time off snow.
• Arctic Cat took learnings from the time-tested 400 and 800 engines and created the incredibly durable and reliable 858 engine.
• The engine has fewer parts and integrated mounting design in the crankcase — making it strong and easy to service.

YAMAHA TO EXIT SNOWMOBILE BUSINESS https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/yamaha-to-exit-snowmobile-business/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/yamaha-to-exit-snowmobile-business/#respond Wed, 28 Jun 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.supertraxmag.com/?p=15413 Today Yamaha Motor Corporation Japan and its affiliates Yamaha Motor Canada (YMCA) and Yamaha Motor Corporation USA Jointly announced their intention to exit the snowmobile business.

While the 2024 model year will be the final available production in Europe, North America’s final production year will be the 2025 model year.

This news comes as a substantial shock and disappointment to the entire snowmobile market. Yamaha has been manufacturing snowmobiles since 1968 with its introduction of the SL350.

While sales in North America remained relatively healthy, global influences as result of Europe withdrawing and sanctions limiting the product supply to Russia weighed heavily into the overall global business outlook.

It is not yet known what the long-term impact of this move will be on Arctic Cat Inc. in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Arctic Cat has been the snowmobile chassis supplier to Yamaha since MY 2012.

Yamaha supplies a significant number of engines to Arctic Cat for use in both their own and Arctic Cat snowmobiles, all of which are built in Thief River Falls, Minnesota.

Initial reports are that Yamaha is committed to fulfilling the contractual obligations as the engine supplier for 4-Stoke equipped Arctic Cat snowmobiles.

In the short term it is business as usual for Yamaha snowmobile dealers with production of MY 2024 models in full force. Included with this release is Yamaha’s release to consumers and the industry, as well as answers to a number of FAQs.

We will continue to follow this breaking story over the next days and weeks.

Here’s the official announcement from Yamaha…

Yamaha Motor Announces Eventual Withdrawal from Snowmobile Business

Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. today announces plans for an eventual withdrawal of the snowmobile business. The 2024 model year will be the final for available production in the European market, while North America’s final production will be the 2025 model year.

  1. History of the Business and Reasons for Withdrawal

In 1968, Yamaha released its first snowmobile, the SL350, by applying small engine technology which it developed in the motorcycle business. Over the past 55 years, Yamaha developed snowmobiles for sports, leisure, and business use as a means of transportation mainly in snowy areas found in North America and Europe. Yamaha also aimed to grow the business through the early introduction of environmentally-friendly 4-stroke models and alliances with other companies. However, Yamaha has concluded it will be difficult to continue a sustainable business in the snowmobile market. Going forward, Yamaha will concentrate management resources on current business activities and new growth markets.

  1. Future Actions

Yamaha will ensure parts availability, service, and related customer satisfaction now and after the snowmobile final production run occurs.
Production of the recently introduced 2024 models is underway and scheduled for fall delivery. Yamaha distributors will be working closely with dealers to minimize impact and best position their business over the next 12 – 36 months.

  1. Impact on Business Performance

Due to the exit schedule outlined above, the effect on consolidated business results will be minor.

Yamaha snowmobile dealers and customers throughout the world have proven to be among the most passionate. Yamaha thanks and cherishes all for their years of loyalty and shared enjoyment of this special winter pastime.

WHAT WOULD IT TAKE TO MAKE YOU SWITCH BRANDS? https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/what-would-it-take-to-make-you-switch-brands/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/what-would-it-take-to-make-you-switch-brands/#respond Sun, 11 Dec 2022 19:37:46 +0000 https://www.supertraxmag.com/?p=14974 We get asked this a lot. It’s Interesting because it’s one of the biggest questions the OEMs ask themselves. As a matter of fact, it’s in the back of every product and marketing exec’s mind from every brand every year as they lay out plans for upcoming sleds.

You see, in this business, the only way to increase profitability is to grab a bigger piece of the pie. And that pie is limited because of the relatively narrow proportions of the sno-mo-market – although there has been growth during the pandemic.

So… if you were in charge, what would you do?

Try this: Build the fastest, best riding best handling sled in the biz! Okay, both Yamaha and Arctic Cat have been on this page for several years now with the Thundercat and the SideWinder and the sales results speak for themselves – but not in an earth-shaking fashion as far as brand switching goes.

Okay then, let’s look at the possibility of building low-cost models that will get entry level customers interested in your brand – and then keep them in your fold so in the future they will buy your products instead of the competition’s.

The current high-value Venom/Blast sleds, although solid entries, haven’t set the world on fire and converted masses of buyers over to their respective brands. At the same time both Ski-Doo and Polaris continue to hold or even grow their market share numbers.

Well, what if an OEM just cut MSRPs way low – and still offer their premium models with all the bells and whistles at a price that is ridiculously rock bottom low? Some OEMs tried this a couple of years ago with some early-order sleds – and although there was good activity for a while in showrooms, there was no significant, lasting gain on the rest of the market.

We think the most successful approach is to come to the market with cutting-edge brand-new technology – something the competition doesn’t offer and is the kind of tech that is completely fresh in the marketplace.

Once again, we have to look at Arctic Cat. By allowing us to get a sneak peek at the new 2024 Catalyst, all eyes were pointed straight at the Thief River Falls, Minnesota sled-maker.

This ploy has likely done much to perk the imaginations of buying customers who may be predisposed to Ski-Doo, Polaris or Yamaha. I mean, how cool would it be to show a new Catalyst off to your buds for the first time next winter? Way cool, we think.

BTW: This kind of marketing in the sno-mo-biz isn’t anything really new. Well, maybe revealing a sled this early is new, but it’s not new to bring out new tech when the stuff you already have is good. It’s the reason Ski-Doo has a Gen5 now and Polaris replaced the AXYS with the new MATRYX.

New is better, and in this biz, you better be bringing new stuff out every couple years or you’ll be quagmired at the bottom of the market. Yup, no matter how good the current model is in your brochure, you better have something radically new – whether engine, electronics, handling, ride, turbocharging… whatever.

Today’s snowmobile OEMs simply cannot sit still: you’ll stagnate to the point of no return if you do – worse yet, the competition will continue to leave you in their snow dust!!

SKI-DOO SAYS RIDE RESPONSIBLY THIS WINTER https://www.supertraxmag.com/press-releases/ski-doo-says-ride-responsibly-this-winter/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/press-releases/ski-doo-says-ride-responsibly-this-winter/#respond Wed, 30 Nov 2022 14:29:44 +0000 https://www.supertraxmag.com/?p=14954 BRP Inc. (TSX:DOO; NASDAQ:DOOO) is committed to promoting responsible riding and increasing its efforts to empower all riders in the powersports communities to ride responsibly and rethink the way they approach safety, environment, and riding etiquette.

Ski-Doo, a BRP brand, is doing that by engaging riders on four unique fronts focused on improving rider safety and preserving our sport for years to come: Take the Pledge, Avalanche Awareness Seminars and Safety Partnerships, Snow P.A.S.S., and International Snowmobile Safety Week.

“As a leader in the snowmobile industry, we have a responsibility to grow the community of responsible riders, educate our community on preserving our winter playgrounds and generate positive experiences. Every action and initiative we take at Ski-Doo is to ensure our sport flourishes today and for future generations of riders.” said Jérémi Doyon-Roch, Manager, Global Marketing, Snowmobile and Cross Brand Initiatives at BRP. “In addition, by working with local organizations, associations and clubs throughout all of our programs, we are helping to ensure riders know where they can safely enjoy the snow and, most importantly, return home to do it all again the next day.”

Take the Pledge for our Playgrounds

Ski-Doo calls on the entire snowmobiling community to “Take the Pledge” ⎯ a collective effort to preserve access to trails on private and public lands and backcountry winter playgrounds. Trespassing and illegal off-trail riding is threatening snowmobile access.

The brand encourages all snowmobilers to be responsible, and pledge their commitment to ensure the sport continues to flourish today and for future generations of riders.

Strength in the Knowledge

Ski-Doo believes in creating safe experiences for all riders and embarks on its fourteenth year of backcountry rider education with free avalanche awareness and avoidance seminars for snowmobilers.

From October 4th to November 30th, riders of all brands, at all levels of experience, are welcomed and encouraged to attend the in-person events with their fellow backcountry explorers to increase or refresh their knowledge in a fun atmosphere.

In addition to offering free seminars, Ski-Doo partnered with associations in Canada and in the United States, and lent 14 snowmobiles last year, and will again this year, to help provide avalanche reports and real world data to all riders. View the video here to learn more.

Protect. Access. Sustain. Support.

For a second year in a row, the Ski-Doo Snow P.A.S.S program returned to help fund community-led projects that improve the sport of snowmobiling. As of today, it has provided $881,000 CAD in funding towards more than 175 projects. In partnership with its incredible network of dealers, the grant program offers up to $5,000 in matching funds to grassroots associations and clubs engaged in the many activities that ensure the health of the sport.

The 2023 International Snowmobile Safety Week

From January 14 to the 22nd, Ski-Doo and BCA will piggyback on safety week awareness messages to educate the riders on code of conduct to protect the social acceptability of the sport. To do so, ambassadors of the brands will be asked to create and share content with their communities, and reinforce the key pillars of Responsible Rider: safety – get the gear, environment – get the forecast, and etiquette – get out of harm’s way. Stay tuned on Ski-Doo social platforms to view the content.

2023 SKI-DOO MXZX 600RS https://www.supertraxmag.com/press-releases/2023-ski-doo-mxzx-600rs/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/press-releases/2023-ski-doo-mxzx-600rs/#respond Mon, 12 Sep 2022 15:38:10 +0000 https://www.supertraxmag.com/?p=14788 Snocross racing’s most dominant sled, the one independent racers can count on for out of the box podium performance, returns with some not so subtle refinements to remain a favorite for the top step in 2023.

Four straight seasons of championship form, led by Elias Ishoel’s, Jordan Lebel’s and Malene Cottew’s ISOC crowns last season, hasn’t affected the team developing the MXZx 600RS as they continue to chase their own records and push for even more performance.

The REV Gen4 platform continues to prove its flexibility and prowess for riders of all abilities, and that focus – making it fast, adaptable and reliable for all – remains the same formula for this season.

Most noticeable will be the yellow color update that maintains the Ski-Doo DNA, while other chassis and powertrain refinements ensure the winning ways continue. Changes focus mainly on better traction, faster corner speeds and a smoother ride to deliver better holeshots, faster overall lap times and less rider fatigue – but no stone is left unturned as engine and clutching improvements are constantly updated every year too.

The chassis changes start up front in the RAS RS suspension with new shocks that are shorter in overall length while maintaining the same travel to help lower the center of gravity, and spring rate has been increased to reduce roll, both changes support better cornering. The front suspension continues to feature a long spindle design that allows high cornering speeds and a unique power steering system exclusive to the MXZx RS race sled that provides ultra-precise handling with less effort.

The RAS RS front suspension updates are complemented by the redesigned rMotion RS rear suspension where the front arm is shortened and the rail mount is moved up for a flatter profile that results in less ski lift and more forward traction when on the throttle out of corners.

The center shock also grows in length to position the front of the rail in more constant contact with the snow surface for better traction everywhere. The increased length also delivers more shock and suspension travel at the front and also provides a motion ratio closer to 1:1 (more linear) for better shock control, bump compliance and rider comfort.

The rMotion RS’s rear arm mounting points are moved back, the shock travel is increased, and its motion ratio also gets closer to 1:1 – these changes support a lower center of gravity, better traction and less ski lift out of turns to drive the sled forward faster.

The coupling system is revised for a wider window of adjustment and there’s a new easily activated and more effective holeshot device.

The MXZ RS retains 46 mm KYB Pro Series shocks that have Integral Base Valves with the ability to adjust not only High and Low Speed Compression but also High Speed rebound and calibration has been updated to match the suspension geometry changes based on feedback from racers testing prototypes last winter.

The MXZx 600RS E-TEC uses the REV Gen4 platform with its open cockpit design and centrally balanced engine for superior rider ergonomics and handling in rough conditions. The REV Gen4 layout delivers agility and responsiveness while the Ergo Step side panels and beveled tunnel allow racers the room they need to attack the course – without interference from the chassis.

The Rotax 600RS E-TEC engine features E-TEC direct injection that consistently delivers quick response and perfect calibration no matter the altitude or weather conditions, allowing racers and their crew to have less to worry about.

Features include booster injectors first deployed on the Rotax 850 E-TEC, a short intake tract with double reeds and digital eRAVE. Engine calibration refinement for 2023 focused on better low RPM and low vehicle speed responsiveness to provide more power out of deep holes or under heavy load conditions – letting racers accelerate faster.
