Finish quality has been amplified as has the reduction in noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) in the new chassis powered by the now-iconic 165-hp Rotax 850 E-TEC twin.

The Gen5 Blizzard arrives with a new engine mounting system and it effectively erases chassis vibration to make this sled’s incredible smoothness possible.

The Blizzard uses the industry benchmark 129-inch rMotion X rear suspension. This skidframe delivers the best ride in the business and ever since the X changes arrived two seasons ago, it has allowed the new Gen5 to corner laser level with nary a hint of inside ski lift on corner exit.

With quality shocks up front and in the rMotion X skid, Blizzard pilots can reach new heights of driver control as both the front RAS X suspension and the rMotion X skid respond intuitively to varying trail conditions. There’s really only one way to describe the Gen5 Blizzard’s ride quality – supremely plush!

Gen5 ergonomics take riders to a higher echelon of all-day comfort utilizing a centered, aerodynamic rider pocket. Aggressive vented running boards and a flat-top seat provide confidence-inspiring grip when attacking tight, technical trails. The rider can easily move around on the Gen5 in response to any terrain while always maintaining complete control.

Rotax E-TEC direct injection power is the industry standard for lightweight, emissions-clean 2-stroke engine performance. Better yet, the 850 extrudes its formidable thrust all the way from engagement to wide-open throttle. Furthermore, both fuel and oil consumption are class leading.

Ski-Doo’s breakthrough Gen5 chassis melds perfectly into the popular Blizzard 129-inch trail platform bringing improved rider comfort, improved handling and dramatically reduced vibration while presenting a seamless, clean body profile snowmobilers will definitely approve of.

2023 SKI-DOO G5 XRS RENEGADE https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/2023-ski-doo-g5-xrs-renegade/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/2023-ski-doo-g5-xrs-renegade/#respond Wed, 16 Mar 2022 05:00:00 +0000 https://new.supertraxmag.com/uncategorized/2023-ski-doo-g5-xrs-renegade/ ***ADVERTORIAL***

Does it seem odd a sled that has carved out a reputation as stellar as Ski-Doo’s XRS Renegade would undergo major changes for MY 2023?

We think so too, but Ski-Doo keeps its complete product line on a four to five year updating cycle and the G4 architecture was due to be refreshed for the upcoming model year.

So, what’s new and what’s different about the new G5 platform?

Let’s start with an all new frontal profile for the X-RS. The G5 brings a sleeker, less edgy, more visually appealing look up front. The new bodywork includes a much easier-to-access engine bay needing to remove just six screws to gain full access under hood. The fresh bodywork uses an innovative sound-absorbing lining that noticeably cuts engine noise at all RPM levels.

More importantly, a major revision to the engine mounting system includes four completely re-engineered engine mounts – one more than the G4. While this might not sound like a huge development, it nets a quantifiable improvement in hood, handlebar, handguard and footrest vibration, particularly at idle and up to engagement.

The windshield shows no vibes or shakes at these levels and a tangible feeling of refinement spreads throughout the chassis as a result of this new 4-mount system.

The G5 X-RS is the first Ski-Doo platform to include a full LED headlight system. LED lighting provides an incomparable amount of forward illumination seasoned Ski-Doo riders will immediately identify and appreciate. This isn’t a big deal, it’s a huge deal – and it gets approval from every test rider.

New Gauges

Ski-Doo goes to the front of the class with an enormous 10.2-inch illuminated gauge cluster. The new instrumentation can be toggled using all-new left-hand switchgear or the gloves-on touch screen. In either case, this setup is incredibly intuitive to use and frankly, so easy to get info from, it’s almost silly. Nothing beats having key information falling right in your lower peripheral. Well done!

KYB Triple Clicks

Ski-Doo commissioned all new KYB dampers for the G5 X-RS. The engineers definitely got it right incorporating three clicker adjustments (soft, medium, hard) that include not only high speed compression damping adjustment but corresponding low-speed adjustment at the same time. Helmets off to Ski-Doo for simplifying this entire process. Riders will quickly and easily find the perfect set-up that suits them best.

XRS Defines High Performance

Without a doubt, the acronym X-RS comes with a stellar reputation for precise handling, ultimate suspension compliance and incomparable power from either a 180-hp ACE 900 Turbo R or an impressive 165-hp 850 E-TEC. Should you have any doubts about the G5 X-RS, we’d suggest a trip to your local Ski-Doo store to get hands-on with it and experience this incredibly potent, breakthrough snowmobile.

POLARIS PROSTAR S4: THE WAIT IS OVER! https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/polaris-prostar-s4-the-wait-is-over/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/polaris-prostar-s4-the-wait-is-over/#respond Wed, 09 Mar 2022 06:00:00 +0000 https://new.supertraxmag.com/uncategorized/polaris-prostar-s4-the-wait-is-over/ **ADVERTORIAL**

Okay, we know you’ve been waiting for this… and so have we! After a 10-year hiatus, it’s high time for Polaris to enter the 4-stroke market.

To say Polaris has entered the 4-stroke market is a gross and almost incalculable understatement. What Polaris has come with is not a “me too” 4-stroke offering but rather a new engine available in multiple MATRYX chassis variants.

Let’s unveil the new ProStar S4 powerplant with a thunderous drum roll. This engine is purpose-built for snowmobile use. Yes, the engine in some ways mirrors the off-road RZR’s 1000 ProStar, however there are material differences not the least of which is a dry sump crankcase to get the engine’s center of gravity as low as possible (the RZR uses a wet sump design).

The new ProStar 4S is a 270/90 degree-firing (Harley-esque) engine replicating the pleasing exhaust cadence of a V-Twin but generated by a parallel twin design.

This design is perfectly suited for snowmobile applications. The parallel twin cylinder profile is a slick fit in the MATRYX bulkhead while the 270/90 firing order produces significantly more torque as well as the aforementioned pleasing exhaust note.

To get air into the new ProStar S4, Polaris has used a double overhead camshaft head design operating 4 valves per cylinder. This is definitely a “Big Gulp” intake capable of producing what Polaris claims as 90-ish horsepower.

The engine employs a highly effective gear driven counterbalance to eliminate vibration. As a result, the engine is as smooth as silk.

Polaris has fitted the new P22 clutch, launched on Patriot Boost last year, to the PTO end of the crank. This clutch uses an idler bearing on the primary post to enhance belt life and make for extremely smooth drive away.

NO LAG

Of great interest to us was the inclusion of a drive-by-wire (DBW) throttle. In the past we have not been big fans of this cable-less design. While we’re not wrong often, we stand corrected after sampling the new S4.

The triple mode electronic throttle flipper is the first such throttle from any OEM that does not demand operation in “Sport” mode. In fact, we operated the 4S in “Standard” mode and found no throttle lag or undesirable hesitation.

This all-new design from Polaris features a brake monitor that will interrupt the throttle if the rider drags his or her finger on the brake lever for more than a couple seconds. This eliminates the potential for brake system overheating – too common on snowmobiles ridden with the operator’s left index finger riding the brake.

Ultimately, you would like to know if the new S4 Pro Star is competitive in the 90-horsepower class – right? Wait no more. Our first impressions led us to believe the new Polaris 1000 cc twin is capable of taking on the current flock of 4-stroke triples.

The S4’s power is torquey, smooth and the seamless packaging of the S4 in the MATRYX chassis means you can order this powerplant in just about every 129 and 137-inch Indy variant.

Take a trip to your local Polaris store and check out the new S4 ProStar!

2022 SKI-DOO BACKCOUNTRY: Refined Split Personality https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/2022-ski-doo-backcountry-refined-split-personality/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/2022-ski-doo-backcountry-refined-split-personality/#respond Wed, 22 Dec 2021 06:00:00 +0000 https://new.supertraxmag.com/uncategorized/2022-ski-doo-backcountry-refined-split-personality/ **ADVERTORIAL**

Ski-Doo is known for studying market trends, anticipating customer needs and developing calculated responses. This is precisely the lineage of Ski-Doo’s Backcountry Series.

Without a doubt the Crossover (X-Over) market is gaining traction in Model Year 2022. Sleds catering to the dual purpose, on/off trail crowd are in hot demand and, as a result some OEMs have thrown fresh and innovative technology at this burgeoning segment.

Ski-Doo is no exception. Both the G4 850 and 600R E-TEC powered Backcountry series exemplifies the determination and drive Ski-Doo has to be the leader in every segment in the snowmobile industry. These Backcountry Ski-Doos leave nothing – zip – nada – on the table.

From its cMotion, transfer reactive, uncoupled 146-inch skidframe to its hybrid RAS 3 double A-arm front end that incorporates the best features of the Summit RAS with the MX-Z RAS X, Ski-Doo delivers a true dual purpose, variable width suspension system that’s specific to the Backcountry series.

Flotation is at the heart of any deep snow, off-trail foray. Ski-Doo ups the ante with an aggressive crossover-specific 146-inch track and skid. The cMotion suspension uses no coupling on the rear arm resulting in near telepathic lift that can propel the Backcountry up and on top of bottomless fluff as capably it does in more densely packed snow. Likewise, cMotion uses a rising rate rear arm shock to process whooped-out trails when you head out for a big-mile excursion.

Click Here for more about the 2022 Ski-Doo Backcountry!

The Backcountry wouldn’t be worthy of all this praise if it didn’t perform capably as a trail sled – and it does! Quickly adjust the skis to the 41-inch width up front and the low CG, G4 platform responds with crisp turn-in and solid-as-a-rock on-center handling as you head for the next corner. Rider gymnastics are welcome when carving trails as a result of the G4’s flat-top seat, stepped side panels and open cockpit design.

The 146-inch track is a tangible improvement in flotation off trail but as a result of the c-Motion’s tipped rails there is virtually no perceptible understeer on hard-packed trails.

No commentary on the Backcountry series would be complete without recognition of the highly sophisticated yet civilized power from either of the direct-injected Rotax E-TEC 600R or E-TEC 850 engine options.

E-TEC technology is without equal in the snowmobile industry. Simply stated, there is no other induction system that delivers such instantaneous and smoke-free starting, buttery smooth idle, fuel efficiency and stumble-free warmup these engines possess.

Add in the availability of Rotax’s revolutionary “SHOT” featherweight electric start system and you have power packages that easily exceed the most discriminating X-Over buyer’s expectations.

The 2022 Backcountry is capably Ski-Doo’s true on and off-trail crossover. And It does it all without compromise!

With the arrival of the new MATRYX platform, the Polaris faithful and those shopping Polaris for the first time may find they need some direction weighing out the features and benefits of this revolutionary Indy chassis.

Find The Right Indy For You!

What’s A VR1?

It’s not difficult to identify and understand an XCR. Its name is synonymous with legendary Polaris handling and rough trail prowess. Frankly, the label “XCR” is legitimately iconic. So how do you rationalize the Indy VR1 and come to an understanding of what makes it uniquely different from the XCR? Let’s cover off what’s different and what’s the same.

The VR1 comes with premium trail-calibrated WER (Walker Evans Racing) rebound and compression adjustable Velocity Shocks all the way around in a fully coupled ProCC skidframe with rail doublers. There’s also Polaris’ incomparable 7S gauge set with Ride Command, the amazing Group Ride feature and the ability to text your riding companions with or without cellphone service.

Polaris’ ergonomically correct SmartWarmers that automatically adjust grip temperature are also standard on the VR1. The VR1 shares identical rider ergonomics with the XCR, providing a 3-inch narrower seat at the critical seat/tank junction and a 4.8-inch width reduction at the console. Both the VR1 and the XCR can be ordered with choices of 1.25, 1.35 or 1.5-inch-deep tracks.

If you take trail riding seriously and appreciate predictable handling, near-telepathic turn-in and ultimate control at speed with razor clean response in the twisties, you’ll want the VR1!

What’s An XCR?

The XCR brand is synonymous with incomparable rough trail handling, big bump suspension compliance and rider-first control! It delivers those traits using top drawer Walker Evans Racing, 2-inch compression and rebound adjustable piggyback reservoir shocks in a coupled ProCC skid. The performance of these dampers under the most gruelling ditch banging and rough trail navigation has to be experienced to be believed!

The XCR comes factory-equipped with a full-on Polaris Race Technology larger diameter brake rotor, larger brake pads and a dedicated exterior brake cooling duct. The rear suspension includes a CNC machined rear coupler stop as well as rail doublers.

Every XCR comes with the 7S interactive digital display with Ride Command and Group Ride toggled three ways: You can control the 7S from the left side switchgear cluster by using a joy stick on the 7S gauge or by simply touching the screen. Again, the MATRYX XCR’s ultra-narrow rider ergonomics and incomparable underhood storage are included.

All XCRs come with Polaris’ new Magnetic Tether. If you get excited when you hear the trails were not groomed last night and quantify snowmobile ride and handling by how fast you can run whoops, ditches and portages, the XCR is definitely your ride!

2022 Ski-Doo Renegade Enduro: FOR RIDERS WHO KNOW WHO THEY ARE! https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/2022-ski-doo-renegade-enduro-for-riders-who-know-who-they-are/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/2022-ski-doo-renegade-enduro-for-riders-who-know-who-they-are/#respond Sat, 30 Oct 2021 05:00:00 +0000 https://new.supertraxmag.com/uncategorized/2022-ski-doo-renegade-enduro-for-riders-who-know-who-they-are/ **ADVERTORIAL**

Okay, let’s not mistake the obvious here for something we only think exists. Renegade Enduro riders know their rides are essentially Renegades loaded with more abundant standard features. So why don’t these hardcore “adventure touring” pilots just pony up for a standard Renegade, accessorize it and get on with it?

Easy, my friend. Enduro Renegades come stock with a ton of must-have options mere mortal Renegades must be optioned-out with to be comparable.

Check out the 2022 Ski-Doo Renegade Enduro

Here’s the laundry list: Custom Nav-equipped 7.8 -inch-wide gauge cluster, RAS X front end with Pilot TX tunable skis, heated seat, double LINQ attachments, Ski-Doo’s unique Air Control rMotion skid, KYB aluminum IFP gassers, 12-volt charge port, a 137-inch, 1.25-inch deep Ice Ripper and a bare chested, welded aluminum front bumper looking like it could knock over a house.

This good stuff is pretty much all included when you check the Enduro box. Here’s what else you need to decide on: The Enduro can be equipped with a 95-hp ACE 900 triple, a 130-hp turbo ACE or, also new this year, a 180-hp ACE Turbo R if 4-stroke power is your game.

For the record, last year’s 150-hp ACE Turbo is gone in MY 22. If you’re a committed 2-stroke aficionado, there’s the smooth-as-silk 125-hp 600R E-TEC twin or the potent 165-hp E-TEC 850. This many motor options leaves our throttle thumbs twitching at the possibilities.

Check out the 2022 Ski-Doo Renegade Enduro

When you order up a Renegade Enduro with any of the above powerplants you get the appealing “wide body” front facia – in either 4-stroke or 2-stroke trim. All other G4 2-stroke Renegades use the familiar, slimmer 2-stroke skin.

Here’s what stands out about the Enduro: The standard Ski-Doo Air Control rMotion X skid delivers a ride rivalled by only two other sleds in 2022 – the MX-Z X-RS and Renegade X-RS equipped with Smart-Shox.

Ski-Doo’s air suspension system is easy to use, too. You can make all your adjustments on the fly with an immediate response to terrain and rider (and passenger) weight. In fact, when you equip an Enduro with a LINQ optional 2-up seat you need do nothing more than push a button to increase rear suspension preload and thus deliver a superb ride for not just the pilot but the passenger as well.

Give this scenario serious consideration if you are looking at a Gen4 Ski-Doo model and intend to carry a passenger.

Check out the 2022 Ski-Doo Renegade Enduro

The goodies included with the Enduro are especially interesting to big-mile trail riders. Even the hefty (and also very appealing) front bumper speaks to a hardcore rider’s demand for functionality. Pilot TX tunable skis mean no matter what you wake up to three days into a 2000 klick excursion, snow and temperature conditions will not make the ride less enjoyable.

Six inches of fresh fluff overnight? Dial the Pilot TX skis to max carbide depth and you’re miles down the trail in a flash – suffering none of the annoying understeer fresh snow invokes.

If we had to make a call on the Ski-Doo Enduro’s identity it would be similar to the identity of an Enduro buyer. Ski-Doo’s Enduro knows what it is and as a result brings a plethora of standard stuff to the table that validates its predisposition to delivering big-digit trail pleasure with zero compromise.

DREAMS DO COME TRUE: The Mach Z Returns! https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/dreams-do-come-true-the-mach-z-returns/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/dreams-do-come-true-the-mach-z-returns/#respond Mon, 15 Mar 2021 05:00:00 +0000 https://new.supertraxmag.com/uncategorized/dreams-do-come-true-the-mach-z-returns/ **ADVERTORIAL**

There’s no other sled in the modern era that’s been as revered, loved and its return anticipated more than Ski-Doo’s legendary Mach Z.

There’s good reason for this. In all of its former iterations the Mach Z has been the undisputed ruler of the lakes. The formula for this success has been relatively simple: Build a ridiculously powerful 2-stroke engine with a heroic bore size and as many as three pistons, then shoehorn said engine into a purpose-built chassis and proceed to hang on – tight.

The last Mach Z was launched in the mid-2000s powered by a gargantuan Rotax 1000cc SDI 2-stroke twin arguably producing more than 150-hp – possibly as much as 160.

SPRING CHECK your 2022 Ski Doo Snowmobile!

This monster was introduced in Quebec and the North American press in attendance were given the opportunity to pull the trigger. It was snowing heavily and there was at least 3-inches of new snow on the lake we were using for top end runs.

Unbelievably, under these less than ideal conditions, the mighty Mach would pull well past 100 MPH (160 kph) and did so happily, pull after pull. Undeniably, the name Mach Z means lake-shortening power and unrivaled top speed. Ski-Doo knows this and thus, your dreams are about to come true.

It would be epic to have the Mach Z simply return with 160 2-stroke ponies, wouldn’t it? Ski-Doo would sell every Mach Z it built. However, that would not be Ski-Doo’s style. Valcourt is proud of the reputation Mach Z brings to Ski-Doo snowmobiles and a big part of that reputation is unrivaled power. But this time it’s also more than just a one-dimensional sled.

SPRING CHECK your 2022 Ski Doo Snowmobile!

So here you go. The Mach Z returns in MY 2022 powered by a completely re-engineered 900 ACE, twin cam 4-stroke triple, turbocharged and intercooled and carrying the handle “900 Turbo R”. This engine is the mightiest production snowmobile powerplant ever from Rotax. It produces a claimed 180 peak horsepower using over 17.5 pounds of boost. To say this Mach Z is fast would be like saying Tom Brady is a pretty good quarterback. Both are ridiculous understatements.

Included in the standard equipment column for the Mach Z is Ski-Doo’s semi-active Smart-Shox system. This is cutting edge technology supplied by KYB. Essentially, Smart-Shox continually alter damping rates in milliseconds to inputs from five chassis sensors. If the trail is lined with moguls, Smart Shocks will firm up damping in response to every bump in the trail. When you go into a corner, it holds the chassis flat to deliver cornering unexpected of a muscle sled. This is not fluff – this is the future.

Interestingly, because the Mach Z is a purpose-built lake shredder it arrives with its ride height lowered by one full inch to facilitate speedo-needle-bending top speed. When this was first announced, most wondered if the sled would ride overly firm. Nope, the Smart-Shox keep the chassis settled and the rider in control in the craziest whooped out trails.

If you’re a Mach Z groupie who’s been waiting for more than a decade to witness the return of the Mach Z, this has got to be good news. However, there’s a very serious caveat associated with this re-introduction. Ski-Doo is clearly and precisely making it crystal clear to Mach aficionados this is a one-year deal. You heard it right. This time around the Mach Z is a finite commodity only available on the Spring Break early order program and only available in one trim level – full jam.

SPRING CHECK your 2022 Ski Doo Snowmobile!

If you want a 2022 Mach Z you’ve got the month of March to make up your mind. Don’t expect any “phony” Spring Break ordered Mach Z’s to appear next October. If you want a Mach Z then your only shot at one is to make your best deal right now!

Included in the standard equipment column for the Mach Z is Ski-Doo’s semi-active Smart Shock system. This is cutting edge technology supplied by KYB. Essentially, Smart Shocks continually alter damping rates in milliseconds to inputs read by the shock shaft. If the trail is lined with moguls, Smart Shocks will firm up damping in response to every bump in the trail. This is not fluff – this is the future.

When this was first announced, most wondered if the sled would ride overly firm. Nope, the Smart Shocks keep the chassis settled and the rider in control in the craziest whooped out trails.

It’s decision time for the Mach Z faithful. Frankly, we don’t think Ski-Doo will be able to build enough of these for MY 2022.

THE ALL-NEW MATRYX XCR! https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/the-all-new-matryx-xcr/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/the-all-new-matryx-xcr/#respond Fri, 05 Mar 2021 06:00:00 +0000 https://new.supertraxmag.com/uncategorized/the-all-new-matryx-xcr/ ***ADVERTORIAL***

There are few names in the sport as iconic as “Polaris XCR.” The name conjures up images of historic cross-country races like the I-500 and legendary Spirit Mountain Sno-X events. The XCR is a timeless reminder Polaris has ruled terrain racing for decades.

For MY2022 the company has convincingly cemented the heritage of the XCR into the all-new, super-capable MATRYX XCR 128 and 136, available with 650 or 850 power.

These new XCR models leave nothing on the table for the competition. How so? The revolutionary, ergonomically correct MATRYX chassis takes the ditch banging, mogul-crushing performance of the XCR brand to a new level of precise control and comfort.

SnowCheck your 2022 Polaris Snowmobile!

Handling and cornering control is the hallmark of the MATRYX IFS front end. It produces precise bump control, correct roll center specs and a low center of gravity using premium Walker Evans Racing Velocity Hi-Lo compression adjustable shocks. The system delivers incredible consistency and rugged strength from Polaris’s double A-arm design. This is the benchmark for intuitive on-center stability, precise control and near telepathic turn-in.

XCR control is much more than its standard-setting IFS. Hardcore terrain pilots have found a new benchmark rear suspension with the coupled Pro CC extra long torque arm skidframe suspended by another set of Walker Velocity Hi-Lo compression adjustable gassers. Pro CC uses the responsive geometry of rear arm coupling to deliver a plush ride in moguls while resisting bottoming in square-edged bumps and high-flying landings.

SnowCheck your 2022 Polaris Snowmobile!

Why is this new XCR so fast? It makes no difference if you select the Patriot 850 or the new-last-year Patriot 650 for your XCR; both engines are class leaders delivering impressive acceleration and top end against all competitors. Swing a leg over the XCR’s flat top, ultra-narrow dirt-bike-style seat. Sit down, pull the trigger and release the kind of thrust that immediately curls your toes back and widens your eyes as you tighten your grip on the chrome-moly handlebars. This is a new level of refined, smooth and efficient XCR performance.

While the XCR undeniably delivers bare-chested brawn at WOT, the MATRYX XCR exudes a new level of sophisticated comfort! Polaris’s new Smart Warmers are the ultimate answer to the age-old problem of too hot or too cold – but never just-right handlebar and thumb heat! Pre-select the actual temperature you desire for three preset temps and then just forget about this important feature. Smart Grips work so transparently you’ll never be satisfied with another heater system.

SnowCheck your 2022 Polaris Snowmobile!

Navigating trails, lakes and ditches is what the XCR does best. The sled is never unsettled and never hesitates to soak up the terrain you ride. Riders can enjoy extra confidence using Polaris’s revolutionary, simple-to-operate and understand 7s GPS gauge set. Its unique Group Ride feature lets you see your riding pals in real time on the huge up-front touch screen and gauge cluster.

Going fast is what XCR is all about. However, XCR means ultimate control at speed and the Polaris Racing Technology (PRT) brake system provides massive, fade-free braking with deep modulation from just a light pull at the lever. The iconic XCR racing brake scoop on the hood announces the presence of high performance PRT Stealth braking.

SnowCheck your 2022 Polaris Snowmobile!

A new magnetic tether is standard on all 2022 XCR models as is the MATRYX platform’s sumptuous heated storage located up-front behind the gauge cluster. Big enough to swallow five pairs of goggles, this capacity is unrivalled in the industry. If that isn’t enough, the XCR’s seat can be quickly removed exposing another generous storage area.

All XCR models, including those powered by the 650 and 850 Patriot engines with 128 or 136-inch tracks, can be ordered with a 1.25 Ice Ripper, 1.35 Cobra or a 1.6 inch Cobra track. Polaris’s Pro Steer anti-darting skis are standard on all XCRs.

Now available in the all-new MATRYX chassis with formidable Patriot power, the XCR brand is sure to become even more imposing in MY 2022!

In a very tangible way, these new elements alter what we’ve come to expect from the G4 Renegade X and X-RS platforms. For MY 2021 these improvements are only available on X and X-RS models.

The new, wider RAS-X Renegade front end alters the roll center of the G4 chassis and in doing so lowers the center of gravity of the sled making it feel more planted when pushed to the center of a turn. The result is vastly improved initial turn-in and stronger bite up to and beyond the apex.

The new version of rMotion X takes the cornering forces the chassis is processing and manages them more effectively with laser-level posture as power is re-applied on corner exit.

The completely redesigned TS-X tuneable skis provide dramatically improved bite on varying snow surfaces without constant fiddling to compensate for minor variances in grip. This newly minted ski is now the perfect match for the G4 chassis with the aforementioned “X” improvements.

We were able to dial-in carbide depth easily and experience a much wider range of adjustability with each subsequent click of the TS-X threaded adjusters.

Without doubt Ski-Doo’s rMotion has been the benchmark for snowmobile suspension response. You’ll be happy to hear the new rMotion X swallows trail junk with the same appetite it’s had the past ten years.

If you wish to dial-in more weight transfer, the Renegade’s all-new front torque arm provides a simple-to-tweak, eccentric lower mounting fixture.

Maybe the most profound difference in the new “X” G4 package is front end handling and bump absorption. We found the RAS-X IFS to be exceptionally linear and stable, displaying no nervousness on high-speed trails while producing a confidence-inspiring response to steering inputs.

Put it this way: If you currently ride a G4 Renegade you will immediately discern the improvement in overall handling and suspension response the new RAS-X, rMotion-X and TS-X skis produce.

2021 POLARIS MATRYX PLATFORM: THE PARADIGM SHIFTS! https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/2021-polaris-matryx-platform-the-paradigm-shifts/ https://www.supertraxmag.com/features/2021-polaris-matryx-platform-the-paradigm-shifts/#respond Tue, 03 Mar 2020 06:00:00 +0000 https://new.supertraxmag.com/uncategorized/2021-polaris-matryx-platform-the-paradigm-shifts/ ***ADVERTORIAL***

Polaris has done it again. It has changed the rules and raised the bar in the snowmobile business for MY 2021. The all-new Matryx platform is the biggest news since the arrival of the revolutionary AXYS.

HOW?

Polaris’ calling card is industry leading handling. The low CG, controlled roll center, plush-acting variable castor independent front suspension used on the new INDY VR1, INDY XC Launch Edition AND Switchback Assault 146 models on the Matryx platform closely mirrors the original design with important upgrades designed to enhance the benchmark in snowmobile handling and control.

All-new forged IFS spindles and radically altered rider ergonomics contribute to even better handling. The rider’s perch is fully 4.8 inches narrower through the gas tank and seat junction while the seat itself has been lowered one full inch.

The result is near-telepathic initial turn-in followed by confidence inspiring mid-turn bite due to the platform’s laser level posture which keeps both skis in contact with the trail – whether the riding surface is whooped-out with ruts or freshly groomed.

The rider simply has more control over the chassis as a result of the unique ergonomics.

MORE!

The Matryx platform is available in the SnowCheck exclusive 2021 Indy VR1 in 129 and 137-inch lengths, the new, limited release, Indy XC Launch Edition in 129 and 137 inch track lengths and the all new SnowCheck exclusive Switchback Assault 146. All models on the Matryx platform come with either the brand new, class shattering Patriot 650 or the now legendary, Patriot 850 engine under the hood. Speaking of the hood, the Matryx platform debuts all-new bodywork that’s significantly leaner but significantly warmer for the rider.

REINVENTING THE 600 CLASS

Make no mistake about it, the new Patriot 650 is not a reworked 600 Liberty, it’s an all-new engine boasting a full 10-percent increase in peak horsepower and a formidable shot of arm straightening mid-range thrust. Besides this, the new Patriot 650 is incredibly fuel efficient delivering a noticeable, marked improvement when compared to the Liberty 600.

TAKE IT WITH YOU!

The Matryx platform is the first sled of this era to offer not just adequate but abundant storage. Behind the amazing 7S touch screen digital display is a cavernous 7.6 liter heated trunk. To put it more graphically, there’s enough room for 5 pairs of goggles – and that’s not the only storage space! Pop-off the easy-to-remove seat to expose another generous storage compartment.

THE RULES JUST CHANGED!

Let’s face it. We’ve come to accept how poorly snowmobile heated hand grips and thumb warmers actually function. All Matryx models come with the most sophisticated adjustable heaters ever seen in the snowmobile industry. These new SmartWarmer grips can be programmed to the exact degree you choose for low, medium and high settings.

Once you enter your desired temperature settings, the sled will prioritize warmth to the heated bars and thumb until your preselected level is achieved and then maintain that temperature all day long. No more freezing digits in a crosswind or burnt thumbs. Once you use these heaters you’ll agree – this is a big deal!

TECHNOLOGY THAT LEADS THE WAY HOME

Polaris continues to lead the way in rider-friendly technology with a 7-inch full color, touchscreen, GPS enabled display that can be toggled from all-new left hand navigation that’s smooth, illuminated and intuitive. You can also toggle the display with screen mounted controls.

Previously only available on Polaris Off-Road Vehicles, and optimized for the unique conditions of show, is the game changing “Group Ride” feature that shows where your riding companions are in relation to you in real time without cell coverage. If your friends aren’t smart enough to ride a Polaris they can download the app and they’ll appear on your screen, depending on cell coverage.

Polaris has raised the ante on LED headlights with another industry-first headlight! The new Night Blade lighting system uses dual projector beams: Two for low beam and two for high beam with LED accent lighting to illuminate a wide and deep field of vision.

Polaris’ ultra-plush, weight transfer sensitive Pro CC rear suspension is used to produce superb ride quality anyone can custom tune with either Walker Evans Velocity shocks – standard on VR1 models, or Walker Evans Force shocks on Indy XC Launch Edition models. Either way the new models are designed to deliver both class leading ride quality and industry leading handling and control.

You owe it to yourself to take a close look at the new Polaris INDY VR1, INDY XC Launch Edition or Switchback Assault 146. You’ll find – just as we did – a new level of fit, finish, ride, handling and power in the snowmobile industry.
